Experience: -

summary of experience as Physician and Consultant Gastroenterologist from 1983 to 2011 May 1996 till date: - Prof and Senior Consultant (Medicine and Gastroenterology) at Command Hospital and Armed Forces Medical College complex at Pune. Here he was involved with the teaching of Post Doctoral, Post Graduate and Under Graduate students, besides being the head of the Gastroenterology services at the Command Hospital.


Prior to this he was appointed as Head of the Gastroenterology services and Senior Consultant Gastroenterology at various tertiary care level Command Hospitals of Armed Forces – Army Hospital, Research & Referral, Delhi, Base Hospital, Delhi, Lucknow, Chandigarh and Udhampur.


The primary role at these places was to provide state of the art Gastroenterology care to all the cases referred from a large number of hospitals dependent on these Command Hospitals.


More important than that, was training the young Physicians and Gastroenterologists regarding the correct ways of practicing Medicine  and Clinical & Interventional Gastroenterology.


During long journey of 15 years as a Consultant Gastroenterologist maximum number of the Gastroenterologists of the Armed Forces have sought training under him and have been observed by him regarding their competence and ascertaining for further promotion and grouping them into the elite specialist cadre.

 

Jan 1988 – Dec 1993. Worked at probably the busiest service hospital of Indian Armed Forces at Jammu as a Consultant Physician. The experience gained at that hospital was unparallel.


Aug 1983 – Dec 1986:-Worked as a clinician in various Hospitals and polyclinics of Indian Army and was involved in delivering primary preventive and promotive health care to personnel and families of Indian Army.


International Exposure- During 1993, he was selected by Army HQ and was entrusted with the task of providing Specialist cover as a Consultant Physician to the various International Armies of UN mission at Cambodia. He had done special work related to the treatment of large number of Malaria and Tuberculosis cases. The work done was appreciated by WHO at a conference held at Pnom Penh in Sep 1993.

> Has performed maximum number of Gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary endoscopic interventions in Armed Forces till date. > Has credit of doing many procedures for the first time in Armed Forces.
> Has managed maximum number of Pancreatic fistulae by endoscopic intervention.
> Transnasal endoscopy and Transnasal PEG is a routine thing for him.
> A large number of cases with Pancreatic duct Calculi have been managed endoscopically.
> Have evolved the technique of Esophageal stenting and Achalasia dilatation with precision without using the

   Fluoroscopy.
> Have trained many Gastroenterologists in Armed Forces to undertake endoscopic procedures.
> Formulating long-term/short term strategic plans & SOPs to provide standardized health care in Gastroenterology

   Services.
> Implementing strict measures in operating procedures to optimize resources/capacity utilization.
> Managing the operations including budgeting, personnel planning.
> Ensuring proper implementation of policies keeping in mind the organizational goal.
> Planning and procuring Medical equipments and consumables with strict cost control for benefit of the organization.

   Was adviser to Director General of Armed Forces Medical Services from 2004 - 2009 for all the procurements related

    to Gastroenterology, for the hospitals all over the country.
> Conducting Hepatitis B and C screening camps

> 26 publications as abstracts and papers in national and international journals of Gastroenterology, Hepatology,

   Medicine, Neurology.

Has been involved as a lead worker in various research projects. To mention a few of them are as follows
> HEV hepatitis
> Minimal hepatic encephalopathy
> H pylori associated duodenal ulcer treatment protocol
> Portal hypertension
> Association of H pylori to the Gastric Malignancy
> Treatment protocols of Chronic Hep B as per the Genotype
> Cardiac involvement in Non Alcoholic Cirrhosis

Chalte Chalte a Special Mention
Have distinction of being the only Physician from Armed Forces having record in the Guinness Book of World Records for being the Consultant Physician on a Hospital on Wheels for the longest duration (15 Aug 1997 – 15 Jan 1998). The train was operated in commemoration of Golden Jubilee of Independence.
